  • Name (Ascending)If you select this menu option, then the folder structure will appear one after the other according to the alphabetical order of the names of the folder i.e. folders with name starting with letter 'A' will appear first and folders with name starting with letter 'Z' will appear last.
  • Name (Descending)If you select this menu option, then the folder structure will appear like the opposite of ascending order. i.e. folders with name starting with letter 'Z' will appear first and folders with name starting with letter 'A' will appear last.
  • Last modified dateIf you select this option folders will be sorted as per the last date of modification. The most recently modified folder will appear first in the folder grid/list.

No separate button will appear for sorting in list view. In list view the folders and files will be sorted based on column header. There are arrows beside each column header used for sorting, which appears when user takes the cursor beside the column header.

When the list view first appears, this arrows will appear disabled. Once user clicks on one of these arrows it will appear enabled (pointing upwards – sort from A to Z alphabetically), then on clicking again will reverse direction (pointing downwards – sort from Z to A), then on third click, it will become disabled again, so the list gets back to where it was before sorting (arrow head pointing upwards). This logic applies for all columns.

For example, on first clicking of the arrow beside the ‘Name’ column of an unsorted list, the arrow will point upwards, this means the files will appear first & will be sorted from A to Z (grouped together in a separate group from folders) while folders will appear last (grouped together) & will be sorted from A to Z. If user clicks on the arrow to reverse it, then the sorted folder group (now sorted in reverse order from Z to A) will appear first and the sorted file group (now sorted in reverse order from Z to A) will appear last. On clicking the arrow again will disable it, and the list will become unsorted again (as it appeared first).

Now, say user sorted first (either A to Z or Z to A) using the ‘Name’ column and keeping the ‘Name’ column arrow enabled, clicks (enables) the arrow beside ‘Owner’ column, then the ‘Name’ column arrow will become disabled. The sorting will now happen based on the ‘Owner’ column.

The up arrow beside the ‘Owner’ column means (if enabled) folders/files created/uploaded by owners with names starting from A will appear first and folders/files created/uploaded by owners with names starting from Z will appear last. The reverse of this arrow is just the opposite. The up arrow beside the ‘Last modified’ date column means (if enabled) folders/files will older date of creation/upload will appear first, and newer date (closer to current date) will appear last. The reverse of this arrow is just the opposite. The up arrow beside the ‘File size’ column means (if enabled) files with smaller size will appear first and files with larger size will appear last (although it is independent of folders, as all files will be stacked together). The reverse of this arrow is just the opposite.
